Welcome back, everyone, and hello to our newest backers!

If you haven't seen our previous updates, we recommend you check them out. Here is the very first one which gives you a little info about what to expect for the project.

We have a lot to cover so let's jump into the update...

Livestream This Thursday!

Tune in THIS Thursday, June 16 @Noon EDT for a live teach & playthrough of Aeon's End Past & Present with Heavy Cardboard!

BGG Images ISO Thumbs!

Get those thumbs to work! We'd love your help so we continue to stay hot over on BGG. All we need from you is for you to share your excitement by engaging in the forums, checking out the videos, and liking new images like these:

Discover the FIRST Breach Mage - Kiri Maesan!

Continue your journey back in time to the origins of breach magic itself! The first-ever breach mage, scientist Kiri Maesan, ventures into the jungle to live amongst the phoenixes and learn the secrets of their specialized aether manipulation. But danger lurks within the forest, a corrupted animal that feeds on the passage of time itself!

All backers will receive Kiri & her Phoenix in the Origins small box expansion FREE with your pledge, a $20 value! Origins contains 1 new mage and her pet phoenix’s sideboard and deck, 1 new nemesis, and 4 new market cards.

Newly Unlocked Milestones!

While Reflecting Current is prepped, when you prep another spell gain 1 aether. Cast to deal 4 damage.

More Treasures! While Soskel’s Tactical Gambit is prepped, you may cast this during any player’s casting phase. Cast to deal 1 damage. And with Indira’s Weathered Opal, gain 1 aether OR you may cast a spell in your discard pile.

The Playmat Discussion

We've read through all the feedback about the playmat. Most of the feedback touches on two main points: theme and layout.

As far as theme is concerned, we've made several playmats in the traditional Aeon's End theme. With this mat, we wanted to explore new thematic elements that appear in the storylines of this wave of content. Rhys is a mage who is an inventor. His breaches are of the same style as this mat. We found this style to be a new twist to the AE universe that we'd like to see represented more, so we chose to use this style.

As far as layout is concerned, we've noticed two points consistently mentioned: the Swap zone being too big and the nemesis cards area being too small. When you play through the Past campaign, you will start with 5-10 unique cards in the Swap zone, and that number can grow. We wanted players to be able to see the individual cards in the Swap zone as much as possible so we made it large enough to show 6 cards with minor overlap. These added zones increased the size of the playmat substantially. This led us to trim some space from the nemesis area. The nemesis cards play area holds 4 cards. We positioned this part of the mat so that if you have more than 4 nemesis cards in play, you can set the additional cards off of the mat next to the corresponding section. Having a lot of nemesis cards in play has been something that could occur with mats in the past when that section of the mat could hold 5 cards.

With that said we have decided to stay with the current design.

That's all for today. We'll be back Thursday with our next update!

BGG Images Looking for Thumbs!

We love thumbs! Head over to BGG and see the latest including these new images:

 Unlocked Milestones

Treasures abound!

Who says you need to be perfect? With Malastar’s Imperfect Zanite Gain 1 aether. Then reveal the top card of your deck. If it is a relic, gain 1 additional aether. Then, you may place that card on the bottom of your deck.

Claudia’s Kaleidoscope allows you to cast to deal 1 damage. Then, you may return a gem from your discard pile to your hand.

When you Develop Fall Lantern, deal two damage.  Attach it to any player's breach. Then When a spell is cast from that breach, an ally may prep a spell to one of their closed or open breaches.

Time for some upgrades!

Upgraded basic Chain Lightning says POWER 2: Gravehold or any player suffers 1 damage. Repeat this eight times.

Upgraded basic Omniscient Otherling triggers when discarded. If all players have 4 or more life, Gravehold suffers 5 damage. It is persistent and any player must suffer 3 damage as well.

The upgraded basic version of Flay is unleashed twice. Any player discards a prepped spell and suffers 3 damage.

That's all for today! We'll be back soon with more updates, until then, enjoy the rest of your weekends!

New Mechanics: Swap & Develop + Mark your Calendars for Heavy Cardboard Livestreams!
almost 2 years ago – Sun, Jun 12, 2022 at 06:49:49 AM

Hey, everyone! and Welcome to our new backers! If you missed our first update, check it out here

We have a lot to cover today: Heavy Cardboard streams, New Mechanics in Past and Future, Milestones & BGG... So let's dive right in!

Heavy Cardboard Playthroughs - Mark Your Calendars!

We're getting an intro to Aeon's End: Outcasts THIS Sunday, June 12 with a Solo Playthrough @Noon EDT.

Then NEXT week we get an Aeon's End: Past & Present Playthrough on Thursday, June 16 @Noon EDT.

Be sure to subscribe to the Heavy Cardboard channel over on YouTube so you get notifications. We'll be sure to share the links once they go up as well.

New Mechanics: SWAP & DEVELOP

Swap is a new mechanic where certain starter cards and player cards can turn into a new, more powerful card once a certain condition is met. The card it turns into cannot be obtained in any other way, it starts the game in a new location called the swap zone, to the side of the market.

Develop is a new mechanic where certain player cards have a second cost below their normal cost. Any player can pay the develop cost (which is usually around half the normal cost) to move that card to a new location called the develop zone, to the side of the market. Then, any player can pay the develop cost *again* to gain the card.

So in this way, a player with a better economy can help subsidize their more aggro-focused allies by buying higher-priced cards. Additionally, a lot of develop cards have special effects that occur when you pay the develop cost, such as dealing damage or looking at the top card of the turn order deck.

New BGG Uploads Lookin' for Thumbs!

Latest Unlocked Milestones!

Citrine Shrapnel is a Kickstarter Exclusive Gem that allows you to gain 1 aether for each copy of this card in the develop zone OR allows you to develop a Citrine Shrapnel.

While you have Indira's Aethereal Glow prepped, you can discard a spell in hand during another player's turn to give that player 1 aether. WHAT?

Nook's Mechanek allows you to gain 1 aether or focus one of your breaches. You get to repeat this once before destroying the card. Very cool.

That's all for today, but we'll be back with more and links to the upcoming live plays soon!

Welcome and Thank You! Over 1200 mages ready to head into the breach!
almost 2 years ago – Sun, Jun 12, 2022 at 06:49:40 AM

Welcome, hello, and thank you for joining us for this exciting expedition into the far past and distant future!

This is our first-ever Aeon's End campaign for what is JUST an expansion vs a stand-alone. That means if you are new to the series or perhaps have Aeon's End pre-New Age, you will want to pick up a copy of The New Age or Outcasts to go with this expansion so you have all the components you need to play. If this is you, you will want to back at the Building Storm level or higher to add a past wave of content and you will choose which Wave in the pledge manager after the campaign. Don't worry! We will have a guide when the time comes to refresh your memory and help you make the right selections.

For those of you new to Aeon's End, take a look at how the game plays so you can see the base mechanics that drive this series: Paul Grogan's Tutorial & Playthrough here. For more info, you can also check out the BGG page or watch The Dice Tower review where it was given the Seal of Excellence!

What to Expect During the Project

In each update, we will dive into the game mechanics, a mage or nemesis, as well as our most recently unlocked milestones. We'll also share links to new playthrough content, BGG uploads, and anything else notable, interesting, or fun related to the project that pops up throughout the campaign.

We will typically post twice a week while allowing ourselves a little room for an extra update when needed. We will be in the comments off and on throughout the day from ~9am EST to 10pm EST, and will be checking DMs daily as well.

 Day 1 Milestone: New Treasures!

Portable Furnace will allow you to destroy a zero-cost spell. Fossilized Feather is set out at the start of the game next to any spell or relic pile that costs 4 or less. Then, any player who opens a breach may gain a card from that supply. WOW! No wonder they are called treasures.

BGG Thumbs Needed!

We need your help to get more attention to the project! One way you can do that is to head over to BGG and engage with the forums, videos, and images. A simple click of the thumb icon on any post is a great start, but we encourage you to share your thoughts in the comments as well! Here are a few images to start with:

That's all for today! We will be back soon with more about the new expeditions as well as with some Mark Your Calendar playthroughs from Heavy Cardboard & MvM (dates TBA).  Until then, we'll see you in the comments!
